May 27. A Dance. A smail dance waa given by the Alisses Devenish-Aleares at their residence, “Tootoowa,” Papanui-road, on Saturday evening. Miss Aleares was gowned in black silk, veiled with black lace, relieved with handsome jet embroidery, and touches of turquoise blue; Miss D. Aleares, a charming frock of white satin and chiffon; Mrs. Alonteath, a gown of pearl grey chiffon taffeta, and white lace. Amongst the guests were: Aliss Symes, in a white crepe de chine, ornamented with deep fringe; Aliss Grace, claret-coloured velvet; Miss Cargill, black spotted net over white silk; Mies Finch, pale 'blue satin with silver embroidery; Aliss Wood, frock of white chiffon edged with pink satin; Aliss Humphreys, pale blue satin with tunic of black ninon; Aliss Williams, black and gold frock with turquoise blue satin waist belt; Aliss Thomas, vieux rose satin and lace; Aliss Moore, black net relieved with emerald green satin; Aliss Reece, cream satin and lace; Aliss Butterworth, frock of ivory satin with touches of pale pink; Aliss Fulton, cream satin veiled with cream net, and touches of gold tissue; Aliss Secretan, white satin and chiffon; Alias E. Seeretan, pale blue satin; Aliss Bloxara, pale blue satin with silver embroidery. The men present included: Messrs. Russell, white silk frock with pale blue sash; Aliss Robinson, pink satin trimmed with black velvet ribbon; Aliss West, white Liberty satin; Aliss Rose, black crepe de chine and net; Aliss N. Guthrie, white silk with silver embroidery; Aliss Ferguson, white net over white silk; Aliss Cook, peacock blue silk and white lace; Aliss Spooner, black lace over glack Silk; Aliss Buckhurst, pretty floral muslin; Aliss Simpson, rose pink silk and net;' Aliss G. On Thursday evening Airs. John Deans gave a delightful dance in honour of Air. and Airs. lan Deans, at her residence, Riccarton. Airs. Deans wore a gown of black silk; Airs. John Deans, handsome gown of black corded velvet and Limerick lace; Airs. I. Deans, bridal gown of ivory satin and lace; Airs. J. Vernon, white crepe de chine with panels of braided chiffon; Airs. J. Lawrence, bridal gown of white satin and chiffon; Aliss Park, white striped silk grenadine frock and white lace; Aliss Somerville (Wellington) black satin gown with gold sequin; Aliss Symes, white crepe de chine with touches of pale blue embroidery; Aliss Humphreys, pale blush pink ninon, relieved with cream lace and touches of pale blue; Aliss A. Humphreys, sky blue chiffon over white satin and pearl trimming; Aliss Strachey, terracotta satin with overdress of same bordered with embroidery; Aliss Campbell, reseda green satin frock, the corsage trimmed with red and green embroidery; Aliss Cracroft-Wilson, black satin, veiled in black lace with jet trimming; Aliss Burns, pale pink satin Empire frock; Aliss Harley, black satin with panel and trimming of jet; Aliss Hannier. yellow satin, veiled in white net; Aliss Af. Rowley (Invercargill) is the guest of Airs. Mathias at Fendalton. Mrs. J. B. Starky (Alorrinsville) is paying a visit to Airs. Inman at Fendalton. Airs. Henry Wood (Avonside) is spending a few weeks at Sumner. Mrs. George Helmore and family have returned to Fendalton from Sumner. Aliss Gibson, who has been spending a few weeks in Nelson, wheer she was the guest of Airs. Broad, at College House, has returned to Christchurch.
