TURF TALK FROM THE SOUTH.
Friday. With about thirty horses away at Dunedin. Ricvarton has been very quiet during the past week, hot matters should soon liven up in view of the autumn meetings. Broadsword, in charge of JI. Cutts, was shipped North on Thursday to fulfil his engagements at the Wanganui Jockey Chibs Meeting. A yearling half-sister to Bobrikoff, by Martian, of whom great deeds are expected next season. has recently been taken in hand by F. Davis on behalf of T. H. Lowry. The two-year-old Saxifrage is ar present being treated by Mr. J. R. Charlton for an internal complaint, which, though not of a serious nature, will throw him back in <i»ndition. Gipsy Belle, who claims engagements at the Wanganui Meeting, got away from her attendant at I‘orirua recently, and sustained a rather severe fall. It is not expected the mishap will prevent her being taken to Wanganui. Kil winning has been restricted to easy tasks since he returned from the Northern trip, but he is sufficiently forward in condition to only require a few gallops to fir him for a good race. A start has been made with the breaking of Sir George Clifford's yearlings. The colt by Sou It —Miss Annie, has been ridden, and the colt by Kiicberan —Melita has been handled. The Stonyhurst-bred youngsters are expected to arrive about Easter. Word comes from the South that the Riverton Raring Club has purchased a section adjoining their course, it being thought advisable to do this so as to preserve the circuit of the steeplechase- course, there being situated in the paddock a double, the water-jump, a post and rail, and gorse jumps. The area comprises some 60 acres, and with the present course of 103 acres will make a tidy property. ± £ *
