A BURNING MOUNTAIN IN FULL BLAST.

Ngauruhoe (7,515 feet), the only active volcano in New Zealand, is one of the three magnificent mountains that dominate the centre of the island, and around which the ancient Maori weaved many a poetic legend. The volcano, during 1909, was constantly active, belching immense clouds of smoke, steam, and cinders into the heavens. Not within living recollection has such a magnificent display been made by the mountain, and the tourists from abroad, who were fortunate enough to catch it in an angry mood, undoubtedly saw one of the most inspiring sights the phenomena of nature can present to mankind.
