August 28. Hunt Club Ball, The annual Waikato Hunt Club ball, which had been much talked of and eagerly anticipated, came off last night in the Alexandra Hall, and was the most brilliant and successful event of the season. The supper-table was a scheme in hunting scenes. The flowers were red japonicas, red anemones, and freesias, and at intervals were tripods formed of hunting crops, and suspended from them were silver horseshoes. Hurdles, formed of light batons and covered with greenery, gave a finishing touch. There were some lovely dresses worn last night, but the crowd was so great it was difficult to get a peep at them. Mrs. Taylor was wearing a black silk and net gown, made in semi-Empire style, with Directoire sash of soft black silk; Mrs. C. Hunter, black lace over black glace, bodice trimmed with creme applique; Mrs. Banks, rich black silk; Mrs. J.
