NELSON.

July 22. At Home. An enjoyable "At Home” was given by Mrs. A. P. Burnes for her guest, Miss Menlove (Dunedin), when a very pleasant afternoon was spent in spite of the deplorable state of the weather. Owing to the rain, most of the guests wore coats and skirts. Amongst those present were: —Mesdames Allen, Dewis, Coote, Gibbs, Clark, Macquarie, Blundell, Dodson, J. Sharp, Booth, Glasgow, Cock, Smith Harrison, Misses Clarke (3), Richmond, Ledger. Afternoon Tea. Mrs. Macquarie entertained a number ot guests at the “Haere-mai” at after-noon-tea, when Miss Menlove was again the “guest of honour.” Mrs. Macquarie wore a dark green costume, green bat; Mrs. Burnes, black tailor-made, black hat with plumes; Miss Menlove, dark cloth costume, grey fur toque; Mrs. Clark, .fawn dress, brown hat; Misses Clark, green, wide black hats; Mrs. Booth, saxe-blue cloth; Mrs. Gibbs, black; Miss Gibbs, brown tailor-made, tangerine straw hat; Mrs. Coote, dark blue, cerise hat; Mrs. J. Sharp, dark green costume; Mrs. A. Glasgow, black, large black hat; Mrs. Cock, dark green tweed, black toque; Mrs. Fell, navy blue, bright green hat and boa; Mrs. Hamilton-Smith (Melbourne )j black silk; Mrs. S. Gibbs, wine coloured costume, hat en suite; Mrs. Harrison, navy; Mrs. Dodson, dark green tailormade; Mrs. Edwards, purple cloth, white hat with green wings; Mrs. Hoby, brown coat and skirt, wide, black hat. Progressive Bridge. A small progressive bridge party was given by Mrs. S. Gibbs on Friday, when the prizes were won by Miss Richmond and Dr. Bett. Some of the players •were:—Mesdames Hamilton-Smith and Gibbs, Miss Gibbs, Miss J. Pitt (Wellington), Miss Richmond, Miss Suther-land-Smith, Miss Webb, Dr. Barr, and Dr. Bett, and Messrs. Macquarie, Holkei, and Rowley. An Enjoyable Party. Miss S. Fell gave an enjoyable party for the Misses Fell (Wellington), when several novel games were played. The chief prize-winners were Misses Maginity and Blackett. Mrs. Fell wore a handsome gown of black satin; Miss R. Atkinson, navy silk and Honiton lace; Miss S. Fell, pale blue; Misses Fell (Wellington), blade velvet; Mrs. R. Fell, crimson velvet. Some others present were: —Misses Ledger, Leggatt, de Castro, Huddleston, Hodson, Cock (2), Houlker, Blackett, Tomlinson, )Maginity, Clark, Glasgow. Golf. The trophy presented by Mrs. A. Glasgow for the best round in the eclectic match was wfon by Miss L. Ledger. Ladies’ Monthly Medal Matches were played, and resulted In Miss Hair being winner in the A division, while in the B grade, Misses Douglas and G". Clark tied for first place. Men’s foursomes were played on Saturday, when the winners were Messrs Booth and Harley, who tied with Messrs. Hair and Burnes.

A Dance. An enjoyable dance was given on Tuesday by the Nelson College Old Boye’ Football Club, in the Druids’ Hall. The ball room presented a very animated appearance, and was almost too crowded with dancers. Some of those present were:—Mrs. Booth, brown satin; Mrs. Fell, black silk, long coat of turquoise cloth; Mrs. Rose, black crepe de chine; Mrs. C. King, black, mauve :opera coat; Mrs. Brusewitz, floral silk; Mise Bamford, black glace with silver sequins; Miss F. Mablue taffeta; Miss Hair, white silk with crimson girdle; Miss G. Harley, pale blue Empire gown; Miss Fell, shell pink ninon; Miss Richmond, white lace over blue; Miss Ledger, white chiffon; Miss Langley Adams, pale blue satin; Miss Mackay, black satin, with strappings of blue panne velvet; Miss F. Mackay, blue chiffon; Miss Trolove, raspberry silk; Miss Nathan (Wellington), white satin; Miss Leslie (Motueka), pale mauve chiffon; Miss Loveridge (Svdney). lavender tulle over satin; Misses Clark, red silk; Miss Douglas, silver sequined net over pale green glace; Miss de Castro, floral pink muslin; Miss Webb, black net over black satin.

Personal. ' Mr. and Mrs. Blechenden have returner after spending two vears in China. Mr. and Mrs. Bell’ (Hillesden) are visiting Nelson. Mr. A. Adams (Langleydale) is staying in town. Misses Fell have returned to Wellington.
