THE SELWYN CENTENARY— LAYING THE FOUNDATION STONE OF THE PATTESON WING, ST. JOHN'S COLLEGE.
THE COLLEGE AS IT WILL APPEAR WHEN THE PATTESON WING IS COMPLETED. The trustees, in accordance with the directions of the General Synod. 1907. instructed the architect (Mr. G. Selwyn Goldsbro' I to prepare plans for (a) the first portion of the permanent buildings, (bl the complete College. The whole of the new wing will, no doubt, be always called the Patteson Wing, and in the same wav. the Library be known as the Kinder Library. As time goes on. other portions of the complete College will hand on the names of other leaders in Church and State. The Patteson Wing will accommodate 30 men. To a portion of it, men training for work in Melansia will have priority of claim. The completed college will accommodate 10(1 men. The present buildings will stand for a while longer. In them the Warden and 15 men can be accommodated. Thus the present scheme proposes accommodation f< r 45 men, of whom 10 can be scholars and 35 can be students at their own charges. The Patteson Wino- will, it is estimated, cost £6,000.
THE KINDER LIBRARY. In 1902 Dr. Kinder generously presented to Hie College his theological and classical library of some 3.00(1 volumes, on condition that adequate provision was made for the accommodation and safe keeping of the books. The St. John's College Association took the matter of funds in hand, and raised £4OO to meet £lOO given by the late Archdeacon Samuel Williams, an old student. Thus a sum of £5OO stands to the credit of the Kinder Library Fund. The building will be a portion of the new permanent College.
