THE LOSS OF THE HAWEA.
While endeavouring to cross the bar at Greymouth, outward bound for Australia with a cargo of white pine, the I nion Company's slimiiut Haven touched bottom, and being caught by a heavy roller, was swept on to the northern mole, where she became a total wreck. The company had just s|>eiil £5OOO in repairs to the vessel after her long drift in the Pacific Ocean as the result of breaking her tail shaft. This striking picture was taken 15 minutes after the stranding of the steamer.
