Dear Bee, May 22. THE LADIES’ BRIDGE CLUB met at Mrs. C. F. Thomas’ house at Carlton on Thursday. The members present were: Mrs. Thomas, Mrs. Michael Campladl, Miss Campbell, Mrs. Beals, Airs. G. Ronalds, Miss llennah, Mrs. Kirkpatrick, Miss Wilson, Mrs. Condel), Airs. Nancarrow, Miss Turton, ami- Miss Nedwill. The prize-winner was Mrs. G. Ronalds. AT A SMALL BRIDGE PARTY given by Mrs. Wigram at Park Terrace the players were: Mrs. Wigram, Airs. Pyne, Mrs. Woodhouse (Dunedin), Airs. •nd Kfiss Kettle, Airs. T. ('owlish aw, Airs. C. Reid, Mrs. Bor wick, the Misses Murray Aynsley, Denniston, Reeves, and Mrs. J. D. Hall.

Miss Ncdwill gave A BRIDGE PARTY on Tuesday evening, those present being: Mr. and Mrs. H. H. Loughnan, Miss Symes, Miss Cracroft-Wilson, Dr. Jeffries and Dr. Moorhouse. The first meeting of THE SEWING CLUB in connection with the Protection of Infant Life Society was held at Mrs. Pyne’s residence. on Monday afternoon. Those present were: Mrs. Gower Burns, Mrs. Pyne (President), Mrs. Walter Moore, the Misses Moore, Mrs. and Miss Hill, Mrs. W. Wood, the Misses Wood, Miss Helinore, the Misses Burns (2), Pyne, Humphreys (2), and Banks. GOLF. During the last few days the weather has been perfect for golf, and a number of players have been out on both links. At Shirley foursomes were played for trophies presented by Mrs. Pyne. The match resulted in a tie between Mrs. Vernon and Miss Louisson, and Mrs. Campbell and Mrs. Nancarrow. A SMALL AFTERNOON TEA was given by Professor and Mrs. Blunt at their residence, “St. Ronan’s,” Merivale. The guests included Mr. and Mrs. A. E. G. Rhodes, Mrs. Wigram, Mrs. Pyne, Mrs. Guthrie, Mrs. Mating, Mrs. Archer. A RECEPTION was held by Mr. and Mrs. Bridges at “Te Whare,” Hereford-street, on the occasion of the marriage of their daughter to Mr. J. M. Hair, of Ngamatapouri. The drawing-room was profusely decorated with palms, white flowers, and autumn foliage. The presents, which were numerous and valuable, were greatly admired. Mrs. Bridges wore a green Liberty silk, the bodice trimmed with lace and pendants, green hat to match, and carried a shower bouquet of golden chrysanthemums with trailing smilax and asparagus fern; the bride’s dress was of white Duchesse satin with lace yoke' veil of Honiton lace, fastened with wreath of orange blossoms; Miss Margaret Bridge (bridesmaid) wore a pretty frock of white Liberty silk, white felt hat with white ribbon bows. Amongst the guests were: Mrs. Bridge, sen., and Miss Hastings (grandmother and great-aunt of the bride), Mrs. Arthur Bridges, Mrs. G. Ross, Mr., Mrs. and Miss Bloxam, Mrs. and the Misses Martin, Mrs. Deans, Mr. and Mrs. Greenwood, Mrs. Mickle, Mrs. Goldsmith, Rev. W. Sedgwick, Rev. F. and Mrs. Dunnage, Mrs. and the Misses Crosbie, Mrs. and Miss Dobson, Mrs. and Miss White, Mrs. and Miss Cox, Mrs. and Miss M’lntyre, Mr. and Mrs. C. Bean. PERSONAL PARAGRAPHS. Lady Mills (Dunedin) has been the guest of Mrs. Beswick, Park Terrace, Christchurch, for the last few days. Mrs. Woodhouse (Dunedin) is staying with Mrs. Denniston, Armagh-street. Among recent departures from Christchurch were the Hon. H. F. Wigram and Mrs. Wigram, for England; Mrs. and Miss Rolleston, for England, via Malay, where they intend staying for some months; Miss Stewart and Miss B. Russell, for Japan; Mr. and Mrs. A. E. G. Rhodes and family, for Canada, where they purpose spending two or three months; and Miss M. Cox, for Sydney, where she will spend the winter. Mrs. Black (Melbourne) is visiting friends in Christchurch. The Bishop of Christchurch, Mrs. Julius, and the Misses Julius, returned to Christchurch to-day, Friday, May 22, from Sydney. Mr. and Mrs. R. S. Abraham and Miss Abraham (Palmerston North) passed through Christchurch this week on their way to Hamner Hot Springs. Mrs. Peache (Mt. Somers) returned io Christchurch last week from a trip to England. Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Elworthy (Timaru) are in Christchurch, staying at Bishops court. Mrs. W. Perry (Wellington) is staying with Mrs. George Rhodes at Meadowbank. Mrs. Lnrnach (Wellington) is the guest of Mrs. John Deans, at Riccarton. Miss Wilding (Christchurch) is visiting friends in Christchurch.
