ARTHUR RIVER, ON THE SOUNDS TRIP.
It seems early to be thinking of the summer holidays, but it U evident some
people are already making their arrangements, for we have received from the Union Steam Ship Company a leaflet, describing the proposals for the now famous “Sounds” trip for 1908. The Waikare, which has proved so well suited to this excursionising class of business, and been so popular on previous trips, has again been chosen for the expedition. She will leave Dunedin on January 18, and the trip occupies 13 days to and from that port. The excursion will, circumstances permitting, include visits to Preservation Inlet Dong Sound, Dusky Sound, Wet Jacket Aim, Breaksea and Doubtful Sounds, Croked Arm, Smith Sound, Hall’s Arm, Bradshaw Sound, Gear Arm, Thompson Sound, George Sound and Milford Sound. The steamer •will spend three days in Milford Sound, ■which will give excursionists ample time to visit the Sutherland Falls in a comfortable manner, as well as to visit the different spots of interest in the vicinity of the Sound. Special arrangements will be made by the N.Z. Government Tourist Department for the trip to the Falls, ana for the comfort of the passengers during their absence from the steamer.. Arthur River, which is seen and crossed in a wire cage by those who walk round Dake Ada to the Suthrland Falls, is illustrated by a picture in this issue.
