PALMERSTON NORTH.

Dear: Bee, June 7. 'the first concert of the twelfth sea-" son of the Clreliestral Society took place in the Opera House on last Tuesday. The weather- did its 'worst, but never theless the' attendance was: very large. The 1 soloists were all splendidly received and warmly encored for their different numbers. Perhaps Mr. 1 1 . R. Johnstone (the ’cello player) was the most popular. he being honoured with double encores. In the first part of the programme he played " .Lc Cygne ” (Saint Saens). and "Gavotte” (Popper, and Sitt’s “Serenade” as an encore. Later his number "Meditation'' (Bach-Gou-nod I was considered the gem of the evening. Mr. Johnstone was a member, of the late Exhibition Orchestra. Air. H. Aloschint played a clarinet solo most successfully. Of the vocalists Aliss ( ameron sang "The Worker (Gounod), and as an encore Absent. Air. C. Clarkson first sang “ The Song of Hybrias the Cretan" and “The Dream-maker Man” in response to a recall. His other contribution was e ‘Honour and Arms.’ Aliss Ganstad and Mr. H. Gunter were the accompanists. Aliss Ganstad wore a pretty cream silk frock with cluster of pale pink roses on corsage. Aliss Cameron a lovely shade of pale blue glace silk, made with a very full skirt, the bodice having chitfon trimming. Among the audience were Airs. Cohen, wearing a cream silk and laee toilette with pretty cream and gold scarf: Aliss Macintyre black skirt, cream and pale blue floral muslin blouse, with cream lace; Mrs. Stowe, black skirt, pink and blue silk blouse, long grey-blue coat with white swansdown; Airs. Porritt. black net over black silk, cluster of pale pink roses on corsage; Miss Wilson, black skirt, turquoise blue silk blouse with cream lace yoke; Aliss Robinson, black crepe de chine and lace; Aliss F. Robinson, white muslin and lace, touches of pale blue silk on corsage; Mrs. Renell, in cream with cream cape with swansdown; Miss Bell, cream crepe de chine and lace, pule blue floral silk belt; Miss Gwen Bell, black velvet with cream lace berthe, rose pink silk belt; Airs. Greig, black skirt, pale green satin, blouse with cream lace yoke; Aliss Freeman, ream and pink floral muslin and white lace,; lopg- pale Idue coat;. Airs.
