May 15The social event of the week was the marriage of Miss Meares and Mr. Monteatb, of which there is a description in “Orange Blossoms.' - ’ A HOUSE PARTY AND DANCE were given by Mr. and Mrs. Montgomery, of Little River. Amongst those who went from Christchurch were: Mr. RanaTd Macdonald, Miss Macdonald, Mr. Averil Humphreys, Miss Humphreys, Miss Todhunter, Miss Wells, Mr. and Mrs. T. Cowlishaw, and Messrs. Anderson, Alien, E. Harper, Williams, and Longden. A SMALL BRIDGE PARTY was given on Wednesday evening by Mrs. Wardrop at the Union Bank. Amongst the players were: Mrs. Wigram, Mrs. Randal, Mrs. George Gould, Miss Cowlishaw, Mrs. Thomas. Miss Denniston, Mrs. Pitman, Miss Anderson, and MrsDavidson. GOLF. At present the links are the scene of much amusement and excitement over the Yankee Tournament which is going on, and is likely to go on for several weeks yet, for every player must play every other player. One Wednesday the second grade medal for the month was won by Miss Holmes, and on Friday Mrs Vernon won the competition for the prize given by Miss Cowlishaw. A mixed team of golfers will shortly go to Dunedin to play for the Orbeil Cup. which the Dunedin Club won from the original owners, the Timarti Club. COMING EVENTS. Mrs. Walter Stringer has issued invitations for a dance at the Art Gallery. Mrs. Arnot MeKellar has also sent out invitations for a dance. The Canterbury College Football 'Team are giving a small dance in Miss Cox’s assembly rooms.
