NEW PLYMOUTH.

Dear Bee, October 13. Last Wednesday New Plymouth was en fete; not only was it Laoour Day, but it was the first visit of his Excellency the Governor's to our town, so the demonstrations were enthusiastically carried out, the delightfid weather greatly adding to the enjoyment of the occasion. After Lord Plunket had visited the Hospital and Old People's Home, and the petroleum works, which he showed great interest in. he was driven to the recreation ground, where a GARDEN PARTY Was held, he being formerly welcomed y the Mayor (Mr. Dockrill) and the Town Clerk (Mr. Bellringer) read a formal address of welcome, to which his Excellency replied in fitting terms. After remaining there for some short time. Lord Plunket was accompanied by Mr. F. P. Corkill, the Grand Superintendent of Taranaki, and proceeded to pay an official meeting to the Ngamotu Lodge of Freemasons, which was specially held for the purpose of receiving the Most Worshipful Grand Master. After the Masonic proceedings, his Excellency, escorted by Rev. F. G. Evans, Colonel Ellis and Mr. Corkill. visited St. Mary's Church, and inspected tile military hatchments and other memorials, within and around the sacred edifice. In the evening the Governor was present in the recreation grounds to see the fireworks display. Among those present at the garden party were Mrs. Dockrill (Mayoress), black cloth costume, with white laee vest, black picture hat relieved with scarlet geraniums; Miss Cattley looked charming in a pale green linen costume, with white laee vest, pretty heliotrope hat; Miss M. He will therefore be away for some years, much to the regret of his many friends, as he will be greatly missed in all social functions. The hall was prettily decorated with flags and ferns, while the supper table decorations were very pretty, the colours being white, yellow and purple. Miss Hanna being responsible for the latter, while Miss Alice Brewster made a very energetic secretary. McKinnon Bain supplied the music.
