HAWERA.

Dear Bee, March 15. This has been an extremely dull week. I suppose it is what one must .expect, aS tennis is very nearly over, and the winter amusements have not yet begun. .This has not been a realty good summer for entertaining. The weather has generally been so unsettled that one has thought twice before having any gaieties, as it was almost sure to lie wet. It is to be hoped we shall have a gay winter to make up for it. I hear the rink is to start much earlier this winter. A delightful invitation farewell concert was given TO MISS EVA CHAMPION last Tuesday night in the Foresters’ I Call. Miss Champion, who has been staying for some weeks in Hawera, is shortly leaving for Sydney to complete her musical studies under the auspices of ‘’The Girls’ Realm Guild.” Miss Dhampion has made many friends during her stay here, and she has charmed everybody with her lovely voice. - The concert was a most- .successful one. Amongst those present Were: Mrs. Westenra, in black silk; Mrs. Greville, white silk blouse, black skirt: Mrs. Dingle, black; Mrs. Sloan, chiffon blouse, black skirt; Mrs. Nolan, black velvet; Miss Dunsford, black gown, Maltese lace; Mrs ■Nalder, Airs. Quin, Flynn (2), Mrs. Parkinson; Mrs, 1 Page, chine silk blouse ’of pink and .blue, black skirt.; Miss AVorrall-, frock of white silk; Miss Champion, dainty frock of'-white crepe de chine-, white sash; Miss Stringer, Miss Stevens, Alvjs Winks: Miss Shalders, cream frock; Miss Mcßae was wearing h. frock of light blue; Miss Sowerby, pale grey; Mrs. Sowerby, black satin; Misses Coutts (2), Alexander, Seaton; Mrs. Raine, white silk blouse, black skirt; Mrs. Hirst, * Airs. Gillies, Miss Dennison, pale blue; Mrs. Turnbull, Airs. Wrigley, Airs. Worrall, Miss Reilly. Drs. Westenra, Sloan, Messrs. Nolan (2), Gillies, Nalder, Page,. Stevens, Whittaker, Greville, Aitken, Hirst, Poole, Were, Tonks. Dingle, Turnbull, Parkinson (2), Conroy, etc. THE ANNUAL FLOWER SHOW held out at Normanby on Wednesday and Thursday was very successful, although the takings were not so large as lust year. In the evening the annual concert was held in the Town Hall, and there was a packed house. Ail the items Were very enjoyable. Those taking part were: Airs. Quin, Aliases B. and J. Flynn, W. Connell, Alessrs. Siusled, Swinburne, T. Lloyd, Brown, and Clements. Airs. W. A. Quin was responsible for the arrangements of the programme, and she is to be congratulated on its success.
