CHRISTCHURCH.

Dear Bee, January 25. Touring and holiday-making are still the absorbing amusements. They come from the North and they eome from the South, spend a few days in church, and then hie them on to fresh fields and pastures new. Janet, Lady (Hark, and Miss Ivy Chuk (Melbourne) rested a few' days at Warner’s last week, and left again for Alount Cook, where they are to meet Aliss Clark and Air Russell Clark. While in Christchurch they were tlie gneets of Air and Mrs A. E. G. Rhodes at n dinner party, which included Air and Airs G. G. Stead, Mrs Kettle, Air and Airs Burns, Aliss Boyle, Messrs A. Rolleston and K. Neave. Dr. and Mrs Persy (Wellington) have been the guests of Mr and Mrs G. E. Rhodes (Meadow bank), and have done a good deal of motoring during their stay. They have now returned to Wellington. River picnics and boating parties these lovely moonlight nights have been much in evidence. The Aliases Anderson gave a delightful boating party down the /Avon lust Saturday, when all went inprry aa the marriage bell.

The bowling tournament has been favoured with perfect weather. A verjj busy time has been spent, and I’m sure a most enjoyable one, if appearances are anything to go by. Mr and Airs R. Struthers, “Craigelea,” have kept a kind of open house for the visitors, and have entertained them most hospitably, Alusieal evenings and a smoke concert have been provided, and Mr Aladdison (the president) issued invitations for a ladies’ day last Friday, which was numerously attended. Alias Aladdison assisted her father to do the honours. The popular secretary of the Bowling Association, Air R. T. Wheeler, worked indefatigably the whole time, and at the smoke concert, when the other prizes were presented, he was asked to accept for Airs Wheeler a very handsome pearl necklet as a small tribute to his zeal and efficiency in connection withthe recent tournament. Alost of the bowlers returned to their homes on Saturday, quite a lively scene taking place at the Christchurch railway station as the southern contingent left. Airs G. Gouldi entertained a small party at bridge at her residence. Avonbank, on Saturday evening, when some of those present were Airs Woodrofle, Mrs Pitman, Mrs T. Cowlishaw, Afrs P. Campbell, Airs H. J. Beswick, Misses Lee and Alurray-Aynsley. A recherche little supper finished the evening, Mrs H. Quane gave a delightful dance on Friday evening at her residence, I apanui, for her young friends, which passed off most successfully. And on Saturday a large party of children was entertained also by Mrs Quane, Airs Meredith-Kaye gave a charming evening for her young friends last w-cok at her residence, Armagh-street, finishing with a dainty little supper.
