GISBORNE.
Dear Bee, — January 28th. J have the same story of “no news” to tell this week, and I suppose it will remain very much the same until race time next month. The fenembers of the Poverty Bay Club are (talking of giving another “At Home,” Jon the second night of the races. The (Club entertainments are always most enjoyable, and much looked forward to. Mr Arthur Hutchinson has made a generous donation to the Gisborne Libfrary—X 100 to commence a reference library. The library will be moved into new buildings in a few months, and Mr Hutchinson’s donation will be a good beginning for the new department. The opening of the Trinity Young Men’s Club takes place on Thursday next, when a great water carnival will be held. Swimming races, boat races, diving and other events will take place, and valuable trophies have been promised. It is hoped that the growth of
this Club will lead to the erection of swinmiiug baths, which are greatly needed in this town. Mr Laver is preparing his pupils for another concert, which he intends to give soon. Last Saturday Mrs Carmichael and Miss Reynolds gave afternoon tea at Kaiti Tennis Courts, and Miss Wallis ami Miss Nolan at Whataupoko. There were a number of members present at both courts. Entries are being taken for combined doubles, to be played at Kaiti.
ELSA.
