MARLBOROUGH.

Dear Bee, February 22. The shooting season commences today, and sportsmen are in high spirits, except for one Hiinw mid that is tint they are debarred from shooting all stags with less than eight or ten points. As the game will not wait till the sportsmen counts, they wonder if the “powers that be” will kindly adorn all suitably ornamented

with 'a glittering badge, in addition io their “points.” Tennis is with im always, and cricket too, though good cricket takes a back ■eat in Marlborough.

The members of the Garrison Band, ■who have been <-amping at Ship Cove, Queen Charlotte Sound, returned to Ulen I iciui on We hiesday. In addition to a -delightful outing, good sport, and bea-11Idfii 1 recreation, the band did a good deal of improving practice.

The Salvation Army held n “Blackberry Picnic” on Wednesday List at Para, going out in covered trucks by train, with musical instruments, perambulators, hamper*, etc. A grand day’s outing, not to mention the quantities of black berries they brought home with them, made them all happy. The outing is an annual one, as it is with many others, and it would be a real trouble if blackberries were condemned with other noxious weeds.

The Maoris from Waikawa, Pieton, camped out fur .several days at Tara, und obtained such quantities that they did not know what to do with them. To the amusement of everybody in Tieton they called nt several houses to ask for tho loan of preserving pans and jam jars. Ail Pieton had gone a-blackberrying, too, po their requests were not complied with.

JLieut. -Colonel Wolfe has been in the district inspecting the volunteers, who are looking to war to compensate them tor their patient years of drill and obedience to orders.

The tennis craze has caught on properly in Tieton. lEvery day the votaries of that athletic exercise are to be seen at the public an I private courts, playing to the best of their ability and drinking afternoon lea. That and the blackberry picnics are. the only events to chronicle Ibis week.

The Horticultural Show is to be held on Wednesday, and we are looking forward to a pleasant time.

The Blind Musicians perform in Blenheim -on Tuesday, and in Tieton un Wednesday.
