NELSON.

Dear Bee. November -I. The annual session of the Nelson Diocesan Synod is at present being held here. Clergymen from al! parts of the diocese are in town enjoying n week amongst their friends. The opening service was held at the Cathedral on Wednesday evening, the sermon being preached by the Rev. G. York, of Greymouth. The service, which was full choral, was rendered by the combined choirs. On Saturday afternoon the Rishpp and Mrs Mules gave their annual GARDEN PARTY to the members of the Synod. The weather was beautifully fine, and the strong wind that was blowing was not felt in the least, in the beautifully sheltered grounds of Bisbopdale. Ping-pong was played in the library, and tennis ou the courts. Afternoon tea and all kinds of cakes were hstuied round. Mrs Mules who. with the Bishop, received the guests in the garden, wore a handsome gown of black satin, lace mantle and bonnet to match, relieved with heliotrope; Miss Mules, pretty heliotrope silk blouse, black skirt, becoming black hat trimmed with Chiffon. On Friday and Saturday evenings a most successful ENTERTAINMENT, consisting of music, Punch tableaux, and two farces, was held at the Girls’ College, the large lecture-room being filled each evening, and many had to be content with standing room. The money obtained is to be devoted to the Old Girls’ Association fund, for founding a scholarship. The entertainment was arranged and managed by Miss W. Hunter-Brown, who is to be heartily congratulated upon the excellent manner in which everything was staged, and all arrangements carried out. Those who took part in the programme were Mrs Patterson, Mrs Roberts, Misses W. Hunter-Brown, Buchanan, J. Tomlinson, Filleul, Watkis, Gribben, D. Booth, L. Croucher, L. Hunter-Brown, Messrs. E. Cooke, W. Squires, L. Levien, D. Edwards, Detourettes, Dodson, Patterson, and Coney.
