LATE SOCIETY NEWS

FIELDING. Dear Bee, The Ladies’ Club was opened the other day by- a most enjoyable social, to which the members invited their gentlemen friends. A delicious afternoon tea was provided, which, with delightful music, made the afternoon pass all too quickly, Mr Hunter-Brown’s banjo playing being especially appreciated. Songs were given by Mrs Hocking, Coote, Sherwell, Revington-Jones, Oldham, Messrs Coote, Pool, Matheson, Rev-ington-Jones, and a very- pretty duet was sung by Mr and Mrs Coote. Mrs Hunter played all the accompaniments, and also a duet with Mr McKenzie. Mr Moss recited as usual splendidly. In the evening a good many returned to the club and played progressive euchre, Mrs Hunter winning the first prize. It was altogether a most delightful social. The president of the club (Mrs Coote) wore a lovely gown of grey electric faced doth trimmed with Indian work and pretty hat with feathers; Mrs Monckton, vice-president, handsome violet silk; Mrs Oldham, violet silk blouse, and black toque; Mrs E. Goodbehere, pink silk blouse, lace zouave and black hat; Mrs Richmond, black and white; Mrs Carr, pretty white silk blouse and becoming toque; Mrs R. Jones, soft grey dress with insertion; Mrs Morshead, pretty grey cloth dress and black picture hat; Mrs Barton, violet faced cloth; Mrs Mcßeth, black silk; Mrs Pickering, red frock; Mrs A. Fitzherbert, very sweet grey frock with tucked white silk; Mrs Hunter, handsome black dress; Miss Sandylands, blue muslin, black picture hat; Miss McArthur, dark blue foulard; Miss Harden, black foulard, stylish heliotrope hat; Miss Monckton (Wairarapa), pretty blue blouse; Miss SaxonLevin, dark green and plaid dress; Miss Greenlaw (Sydney), violet cloth dress; Miss M. Fry, pink flowered foulard; Miss May Fry, fawn coat and skirt, pretty hat. I also noticed Mesdames McAllum, Gorton, F. Smith, Hill, Banks, Rossiter, and many more I can’t remember. The members must have worked very hard to start their club so quickly and have everything so nice. They have three rooms; the drawing-room I fell especially in love with. It is 34ft by 161 ft, papered in pale green, and has any amount of easy chairs, cosy corners, couches, etc., and very pretty matting on the floor; also several pictures given by some of the members, as were a good many things. The club deserves to flourish, as I am sure it will with such a capable president, vice-president, and committee.

AIME.
