NAPIER.
Dear Bee, October 26. Mrs Howie gave an extremely pleasant concert on Tuesday evening - at the Theatre Royal. She was assisted by several artistes, and an excellent programme was listened to with much enjoyment by the large and fashionable audience, notwithstanding the overflow of musical performances showered upon the Napier public just now. That Mrs Howie’s own singing was appreciated may be gathered from the fact that every item was encored. Her best song was. perhaps, “Ar. English Lullaby,” by Needham, which was given with great taste and delicacy. Every one was glad to see Mr Dal rymple, from Gisborne, and his songs were delightful, his flue voice, which lie knows well how to use, being heard to equal advantage in the beautiful “Love’s Nocturne" (Kellie) and in concerted songs. Miss Large’s solas gave, as usual, a treat to her hearers, while a word must be given in praise cf Mr W. T. Sharp's beautiful ac-o.n-panying. After the concert Mrs G. P. Tornelly entertained the performers at the Masonic Hotel, and presented Mrs Howie with a raukara feather ino a purse of sovereigns.
A sale of work, toys, etc., was held on Friday afternoon, the 19th inst., at Miss Thornton’s school on Napier
Terrace, by the members of the Ilelje ing Hund Association. The work was arranged on tables around the large room, and was done almost entirely by members of the Association. The dolls, children's clothes, and other fancy things formed a goodly show, ond did great credit, to the energetic workers. The substantial sum of £5O •will be handed over to the Church Missionary Association as the proceeds of the bazaar.
MARJORIE.
