A CRUEL MAID.

A young widow has been the victim of a spiteful trick on the part of her French mai<l. She is in the habit of touching up her eyebrows with a camel’s hair brush. A week ago the widow had occasion to rebuke her maid, and this aroused the latter’s malice. The lady had always kept the eyebrows a strict secret; only, of course, one’s maid always knows all one’s most private secrets. Well, what does the wretch do but smear some stull'all over the pencil, which gradually came out red ; and the widow was so used to the implement that she did not detect it till afterwards. So she went out to dinner with red eye brows ami black hair.
