Dear Bek, March 22. The final round of the POLO TOURNAMENT for THE SAVILE CUP took place on Monday morning at Potter s Pad lock. Epsom, when at last perfect weather favoured them Alter the conclusion of the game Colonel Dawson made a short speech and then Mrs Dawson gave the Savile Cup to Mr Baker (Captain of the Manawatu team), who suitably replied, thanking the Auckland Club f.r ther kindness, etc. Tbejunior cup was then handed over to Mr Bennett Captain of Wharerangi team), who also said a few words. Mrs Thomas Morrin presented the cup to Mr C. Purchas, whose pony won the cup at the Polo sports on Saturday. The cup had been given bv the President (Mr Thomas Morrin). There were present about fifty ladies and afternoon tea was given by some of the members of the Club. Mr Heaton Rhodes was there, though his face is still band aged, having not yet perfectly recovered from the blow he received a week ago at Polo. Mrs Dennis O’Rorke gave the AFTERNOON TEA AT POLO. held in Potter’s Paddock on Tuesday, when a friendly match was indulged between Manawatu (the winners of the Savile Cup) anil the Auckland players. After a very exciting game, the score being seven goals to Manawatu and four to Auckland, our hostess invited us to come in to partake of the dainty cakes ami ever refreshing cup of tea with cream, which she had so kindly provided with her usual hospitality. The tables were abundantly furnished with sweets and fruits, and the gentlemen were assiduous in attending to their guests. Some excellent games were played on the lawn, which is in first class order. Among those present were Mrs Andrews, in a pretty rose pink blouse, dark skirt, gem hat . Miss Bertha Atkinson looked stylish in white muslin, large brown straw hat with autumn leaves . Dr. and Mrs Knight, who left Auckland by the ‘ Monowai' on a visit to the Old Country, were entertained before their departure by a number of their friends. Mrs A. B. Reynolds, ot Po'nsonby, gave a MUSICAL EVENING last Wednesday as a farewell. The supper table was prettily decorated with Nil green silk and flowers. Mrs Revnolds wore a very pretty pale pink glace silk blouse with fans of crepe lisse on collar, brown Ottoman silk skirt ; Mrs Knight looked exceedingly well in a stylish green and golden brown brocade evening bodice, white net fichu, black lustre skirt; Mrs Hughes-Jones wore a dainty white figured lustre, white chiffon fichu ; Mrs Douglas, shot amethyst bengaline gown over brocade, plastron was outlined with jewelled passementerie ; Mrs Oxlev, grey and white gown, white chiffon fichu ; Miss Owen, chic heliotrope silk blouse, black crepon skirt ; Miss Ada Owen looked dainty in arose pink Liberty silk blouse finished with cream lace, dark skirt ; Miss Ross, white and pink floral muslin, full collar and cuffs of veiux rose silk : Miss Bach, cream frock, yellow silk sleeves and yoke veiled with pretty lace; Miss Waters, pink chine’ silk blouse, grey skirt. Last Wednesday, on the EDEN AND EPSOM LAWNS the semi-final of the Auckland Lawn Tennis Championship took place between Mr P. Marshal and Mr Arthur Peel, and as the event has been eagerly looked forward to bv tennis enthusiasts. There was a nnmber of spectators assembled to witness this match. It is proposed to close the tennis season earlier this year, probably the 4th of April, as the courts require a very heavy top-dressing. On Saturdav there were a great many tennis-players present as well asthose who indnlgein croquet. Among them I noticed Mrs Hull. in black and whitestripedcambric, floral bonnet ; Mrs McFarland.
