BOWLING.

There was a very successful meeting on the Remuera Bowling Green on Saturday, when six teams from the Ponsonby Club played a return friendly game against six teams of the Remuera Club. Following are the scores Remuera. Ponsonby. No. 1 Rink. W. D. McLean v. C. Bloomfield Colonel Dowell W. J. Rees R. Hull T. Peacock F. W. Court (skip) . 23 J. Kirker (skip) .23 No. 2 Rink. J. Brown v. Mr Beatty C. G. Brookes A Rose J- M. Geddes J. Hardie (skip) .. .. 23 D. B. McDonald (skip) . 13 Total (Remuera) . 107 (Ponsonby) 132 Ponsonbv won the match on the totals by a majority of 25. On the finish of the seventh head, Ponsonby was leading by 25 on the totals, which they increased on the 14th head to a majority of 39, but the Remuera Club during the next seven heads, were successful in reducing the final majority to the same number as it was on the 7th head, that is, a majority ot 25. No. 1 Rink—F. W. Court (skip) v. J. Kirker (skip), turned out a most peculiar game. Ponsonby team started with 4 points on the first head ; on the second head Remuera scored 2 ; Ponsonby then scored every head till the Bth, leaving the game Remuera 2, Ponsonby 18. Remuera then started to score, and gradually crept up from the 2 to 23 all, thus making a tie at the finish. No 2 Rink—George Court (skip) v. R. Ballantyne (skip) also had a good pull up at the finish. On the 16th head the score stood —Remuera 10 to Ponsonby 17, when Remuera managed to score every head till the 20th, finishing—Remuera 19, Ponsonby 20. No. 3 Rink—A. Holden (skip) v. H. W. Brookes (skip). Remuera had rather the better of it at the beginning of the game. On the 7th head the game stood Remuera 9, Ponsonby 2 ; at the Bth head Ponsonby scored 2 more, Remuera then running away by scoring on the following 4 heads, leaving the game on 12th head Remuera 17, Ponsonby 4 ; on the next head Ponsonby secured the jack and finished the game at the 2tst head. Remuera 19, Ponsonby 16 No. 4 Rink—H. S. Ruddock (skip) v. M. McDermott (skip). In this rink the Remuera team was very unfortunate. the Ponsonby team running away from the start to the finish, the game resulting—Remuera 10, Ponsonby 35, being 25 of a majority for Ponsonby, or exactly the number made on the totals in favour of Ponsonby. No. 5 Rink—D. Dingwall (skip) v. J. Coe (skip). This

rink was also very unfortunate for Remuera, finishing— Remuera 13, Ponsonby 25; majority for Ponsonby, 12 points. No. 6 Rink—J. Hardie (skip) v. D. B. McDonald (skip). This rink was skipped by the Acting President of the Remuera Club, against the President of the Ponsonby Club. On the 14th head the game stood 12 each side, but from that point to the finish Remuera gradually forged ahead, finishing—Remuera 23, Ponsonby 13. It may be mentioned that a number of the Remuera competition had never handled a bowl previous to this season, so on the whole, the Remuera Club may well be satisfied with the result of the two encounters with a comparatively old Club like Ponsonby, the first match between them having been played three weeks previously on the Ponsonby Green, when the new Remuera Club was defeated by only one point, and on the present occasion by 25 points. At the close of the game short speeches were delivered by Mr J. Hardie, acting President of the Remuera Club, Mr D. B. McDonald, President of the Ponsonby Club ; also by Mr J. Kirker, in reply to good wishes expressed for a jolly time during his coming travels. There was a very good attendance of ladies and friends of the bowlers, and the Club grounds had a very pretty appearance. Afternoon tea was di-tributed by Mesdames Steel, Hardie, Maxfield, Court, and Misses Hardie, Dowell, Fallon, Maxfield, and others, who were accorded a very hearty vote of thanks by the bowlers present.
