Stains on Knives.—Emery paper will remove ordinary stains from ivory knife handles. To Exterminate Beetles.—Powdered borax, scattered around in large quantities, will soon banish these pests. Grease Stains. —If unfortunate enough to spill hot fat on the kitchen floor, dash cold water on it immediatelv. That will harden it, and prevent it from striking in. To Keep Lights Bright.—Soak lamp-wicks in vinegar before using them in a lamp. Wash smoke-stained chimneys in warm water and soap, and rub, while wet, with vinegar or dry salt. They can also be cleaned, as may be globes on glass fixtures, in warm water and soda, and then in warm water and ammonia. Lime Water.—A quart bottle of this may be kept, as it does not easily spoil. It can be made by pouring cold water on a lump of unslaked lime until it is dis solved. Add it to milk in the proportion of one spoon ful to eight, whenever the digestion is out of order Mixed with one third sweet oil it is excellent for burns.
