Dear Bee, April 20. The long-talked of given at the Spit in aid of the Brunnerton sufferers canitt off last night, and was even more successful than was anticipated. The immense wool store of Wenley and Lanauze was literally packed, over 1,000 peoplo being present. Every care had been taken to make the ball a success. The decorations were especially well carried out. tiers of wool bales being used for seats. The wallwere covered with flags and ferns; cabbage trees graced the corners, arm from the ceiling were suspended garlands of coloured tissue paper and Chinese lanterns. The fancy costumes were re markable for their originality, and the wearers must be congr.it u latcdon the trouble taken to carry out their characters. A splendid supper had been prepared. Music was supplied by Newbould - band, assisted by the Drum and Fife bana. The extras were well played by Misses Stuart and Hcrm. Great praise mint bgiven to ail those who assisted in m iking the arrangements, a-i they were all carried out * letter perfect ' 1 am sorry not to be able to describe some of the dresses, but the crowd prevented me from seeing as many as I would have liked, so I would prefer not to mention any rather than to give offence.
