Progress : Development completed except for dip. Allotment of unit comprising 641 acres March, 1950, by exchange of land with ex-serviceman. Balance of area to be disposed of to adjoining owner. Valetta, at Ashburton, 8,947 acres. Acquired: 1940 to 1950. Objective : Originally intended to hold for irrigation, but at present regarded as three sheep and cropping units. Development Programme: Cannot be decided until a definite decision regarding the Valetta-Tinwald irrigation scheme is available. Progress : Block is at present being farmed on " caretaker " basis. Objective: Eleven irrigated units for settlement from 1949. Development Programme: Approximately 21 miles of fencing, 1,800 acres to be bordered, five dwellings with outbuildings, considerable repairs existing buildings, aceess. Progress : 21 miles of fencing completed, 1,700 acres bordered and sown down, buildings and access completed. Four ex-servicemen settled August, 1949, and five ex-servicemen with promises of units. Wingfield, at Rakaia, 1506 acres. Acquired: March, 1945. Objective: Three sheep and cropping units for settlement autumn, 1950. Acquired : 1,537 acres. August, 1944, and 1,407 acres April, 1945. Objective : Five sheep units for allotment June, 1949. Development Programme : 1,025 acres grass, 85 chains fencing, three dwellings, three barn-implement sheds, one cow-byre, repairs to wool-shed and one dwelling. Progress : Completed. Objective : Three sheep unitsone for allotment in May, 1950, and two for allotment in May, 1952. Development Programme : 325 chains drains, 7 acres gorse-clearing, 516 acres grass, 440 chains fencing, 580 chains fencing repairs, two dwellings and one wool-implement shed, one barn-implement shed, repairs to one dwelling.
