No. 66.—Petition of Selena Ellis, 15 Racecourse Road, Riccarton, Christchurch Praying for a war widow's pension. I am directed to report that the Defence Committee has carefully considered this petition, and recommends that it be referred to the Government for consideration. 9th October, 1947. No. 42. —Petition of J. Shortal, of Invercargill (First Report) Praying for inquiry into the circumstances surrounding his discharge from the New Zealand Permanent Military Forces. I am directed to report that the Committee has very carefully considered this petition, and has no recommendation to make. 9th October, 1947. No. 70/1946. —Petition of W. Sears, of Christchurch Praying for full war pension. I have the honour to report that in so far as the prayer of the petition is concerned the Committee has no recommendation to make, but the Committee is of the opinion that the petitioner should immediately apply for a war veteran's allowance. 15th October, 1947. No. 62/1946. —Petition of A. J. Simpson, of Christchurch Praying for a review of the allowance paid him in respect of the effects of his service in the Armed Forces. I have the honour to report that the Committee has no recommendation to make. 23rd October, 1947. No. 102. —Petition of B. Howard, of New Plymouth Praying for a full war pension and compensation, or inquiry into the administration of the War Pensions Act, 1943. I have the honour to report that the Committee has no recommendation to make in regard to this petition. 6th November, 1947. No. 42.—Petition of J. Shortal, of Invercargill (Second Report) Praying for inquiry into the circumstances surrounding his discharge from the New Zealand Permanent Military Forces. , I have the honour to report that the Committee recommends that this petition be referred to the Government for inquiry into all the circumstances raised by the subject-matter of the petition. 6th November, 1947.
