The variations in traffic in the individual districts were approximately as follows : — Christchurch. —Revenue, £733,983; increase, £51,657. Passengers decreased 18,221. Season tickets increased 4,171. Parcels and luggage increased £638. Cattle and calves increased 2,608, sheep 357,638, and pigs 981. Timber decreased 6,292 tons, and minerals 11,567 tons. General goods increased 44,346 tons, chiefly due to an early grain season and good crops. Dunedin. —Revenue, £611,552; increase, £45,725. Passengers increased 21,085. Season tickets increased 1,786. Parcels and luggage and mails normal. Cattle and calves decreased 6,367, and sheep 58,992; pigs increased 1,031. Timber decreased 4,316 tons. The fitting-out of troopships increased the timber traffic last year. General goods increased 16,872 tons, and minerals 17,622 tons, the latter chiefly coal from local mines.
