ANNUAL REPORTS OF DOMAIN BOARDS. The Ukdbr-Secretaht fou Lands to the Hon. the Mihisteb of Lauds. Sin, — Departmeni of Lands and Survey, Wellington, J Bth September, 1912. 1 have the Lonour to transmit herewith a synopsis of the annual reports of Domain Boards I'm the year ended 31st Deoember, 1911, which have been furnished in accordance with section 45 of the Public Reserves and Domains Act, 1908. Although only a brief summary of the operations of each Board is published, it is sufficient in show that the great majority of the public domains of iHe Dominion are being gradually improved and embellished, and made more suitable Eoi the purpose for which they have been dedicated —their use and enjoyment for recreation by the whole community. The total number of public domains in each land district, together with the total areas, is shown in the following table : — Land D.smet. 0 ' Area '" ACreS ' Auckland ... . ... ... ... ... 147 19,686 Hawke'sßay ... ... ... ... ... 33 920 Taranaki ... ... ... ... ... ... 49 1,552 Wellington ... ... ... ... ... ... 70 38,234* Marlborough ... ... ... ... ... ... 9 763 Nelson 21 3,330 Westland ... ... ... ... ... ... 12 381 Canterbury ... ... ... ... ... ... 98 8,675 Otago ... ... ... ... ... ... 57 6,838 Southland ... ... ' ... ... ... ... 26 1,172 Grand totals ... ... ... 522 81,551 • Includes 33,000 acres set aside as a domain under section U of the Wauganui River Trust Act, 1891 In 1010 the total number was 512, and the total area 81,265 acres. It will therefore be noted that an increase, both in the number of separate domains and the total area, has beeta made during the year under review. Thirteen new domains were (-(instituted during the year. The total number does not show a corresponding increase, owing in the fact that in some cases it has been found necessary for purposes of administration to amalgamate domains in the same locality. For instance, the domains hitherto named Parkville, Eketahuna, and Kensington Park .ire now known by the common name of Eketahuna, and are controlled by one Board. The Hoards controlling the undermentioned domains have failed to report, and inquiries are now being made as to the cause of default. Auckland Land Disthict.
