Causes of Death —continued.

MORTALITY FROM FEBRILE AND ZYMOTIC DISEASES. The deaths in 1905 from specific febrile or zymotic diseases amounted to 391, a propotion of 4"49 in every 10,000 persons living, and a decrease of 177 on the number of deaths in 1904, when the proportion was 6*72. The feature of last year's mortality is the comparative freedom of the colony from some of the epidemic diseases most fatal to children—viz., measles, scarlet fever, scarlatina, and whooping-cough— the total deaths from these causes being only 21, against 58 in 1904 and 478 in 1903.
