Estimated Cost of Works required to complete the Mount Cook New Prison, Wellington. Regabding the amount which will be required to complete the prison in accordance with the original designs, or the time it will take to carry out the works by prison labour, in the same way that the existing wing has been erected, there is considerable difficulty in forming an estimate of the probable cost and time required for the execution of the works; but if contracts are let at the ordinary current rates for the erection of buildings and walls, the total cost may be estimated at £105,000, including all materials required; and it would take about four years to do the whole.
