EEPOET. Government Buildings, Wellington, 15th July, 1881. The Commissioners of the Public Debts Sinking Funds have the honor to lay before Parliament their report and accounts for the year ending 30th June, 1881. On Ist January last the outstanding debentures of the Nelson Waterworks Loan of 1864, amounting to £6,200, matured, and were redeemed out of the Consolidated Fund; whereupon the Commissioners released and paid into the Public Account £6,174 135., being the amount of the sinking funds then accrued. As will be seen from the accounts a small sum remains to be released, which will be paid over immediately and the account of this loan closed. The Commissioners have also paid into the Public Account £1,259 7s. in respect of the sinking fund of the Canterbury Loan of 1856, leaving a balance on 30th June of £208 7s. 9d., which will also be paid over at once. During the year the Commissioners, in addition to paying the interest due upon the North Otago District Public Works Loan out of the accruing sinking funds, have applied the sum of £3,000 in further redemption of the debentures of that loan, leaving now outstanding £1.7,000; and, there being at present a balance of £4,404 os. 4d. at credit of the fund, this gum, after deducting the amount required to pay interest, will be applied in like manner. James Edwaed FitzGehald, Chairman of the Commissioners of the Public Debts Sinking Funds.
