I have the honour to acknowledge the receipt of your letter of the date quoted in the margin, (30th April, 1866,) and in reply am directed by Mr. Stafford to inform you that, having regard to the probable amount of business to be done by you as Inspector in Bankruptcy for the Provinces of Nelson and Marlborough, and to the fact that you are also about to be appointed Curator of Intestate Estates for the former Province, the Government is of opinion that your salary should be £300 per annum. In order that funds maybe provided for the expenses of the several Departments of Inspector in Bankruptcy, and for other charges incurred in giving effect to " The Debtors and Creditors Act, 1865," throughout the Colony, I am directed by the Hon. the Colonial Treasurer to request that the fees received by you under the 28th section of the Act may be paid to the Sub-Treasurer at Auckland on the Ist or 2nd of each month.
