MESSAGE No. 24.

The Officer administering the Government requests the attention of the House of Representatives, to the urgent necessity of providing for a Native Secretaiy's Department in the Estimates, in order that the constant intercourse which has hitherto been carried on with the Natives in all parts of the Colony, may still be maintained, with the view of ascertaining their wants, and fostering their progress and improvement, as well as of keeping up that good understanding between them and the Government, on which so much of the tranquility and prosperity of the Colony depend. It. H. WYNYARD. Government House, Auckland, 13th September, 1854.
