MESSAGE No. 6.
His Excellency the Officer administering the Government transmits to the House of Representatives a Memorial from certain residents at Nelson, praying that provision may be made for the erection of a suitable Post Office there. Should the prayer of the Petition be entertained by the House, it will be necessary that a sum of Two hundred pounds, £200, be placed at the disposal of Government in order to provide the accommodation requested. Memorial from sundry Members of the Provincial Council, Justices of the Peace, Clergymen, Merchants, and others, resident in the Town of Nelson, soliciting that a sum of money may be voted by the General Assembly of New Zealand, for the erection of a new Post Office there.
The Undersigned Residents in Nelson, experience great inconvenience and annoyance in not readily receiving their letters, &c , from the Post Office, from a delay, consequent on the preat want of space in the Building (one small room) at present used as the Post Office, their fceir." no accommodation for sorting the letters, &c. They therefore beg this may be made known to the House of Representatives, at Auckland, with a hope, that a sum for the erection of a proper Post Office at Nelson, New Zealand, may be voted during the Session.
