ORDERS OF REFERENCE Extracts from the Journals of the Howe of Representatives Thursday, the 27th Day of June, 1946 Ordered, " That a Select Committee be appointed, consisting, by leave, of eleven members, to consider all petitions from Mto Z which may be referred to it; to classify and prepare abstracts of such petitions in such form and manner as shall appear to it best suited to'convey to this House all requisite information respecting their contents, and to report the same from time to time to this House; and to have power to report its opinions and observations thereon to this House : the Committee to consist of Mr. P. Carr, Mr. Denham, Mr. Gillespie, Mr. Hodgens, Mr. Johnstone, Mr. Kidd, Mr. Langstone, Mr. Neilson, Mr. Sim, Mr. T. C. Webb, and the Mover." —(Hon. Mr. O'Brien.) Ordered, " That all petitions not finally dealt with during the session of 1945 be again referred to the same Committee as they were referred to during the said session."—(Right Hon. Mr. Fraser.)

No. 100/1945. —Petition of C. F. Riley, of Naenae, Lower Hutt, Wood Machinist Praying for a rehearing of his case in the Maintenance Court. I have the honour to report that the Committee has no recommendation to make. 19th July, 1946.
No. 14. —Petition of A. A. Oliver, of 113 Hataitai Road, Wellington E. 2 Praying for the refund of death duties and amendment to the law. I have the honour to report that the Public Petitions M to Z Committee has carefully considered this petition, and recommends that in respect of the prayer for refund of death duties it be referred to the Government for most favourable consideration. 24th July, 1946.
No. B.—Petition of J. J. P. McDougall, of 158 Great North Road, Grey Lynn, Auckland, Pensioner Praying for an inquiry into alleged miscarriage of justice. I have the honour to report that the Committee has no recommendation to make. I am further instructed to say that this petitioner has presented a number of petitions on the same subject-matter since 1928, and the Committee desires to express the opinion that petitioner should not continue presenting petitions unless he furnishes fresh evidence to support his complaint or to merit a fresh petition to the House. 31st July, 1946.

No. 111/1945. —Petition of H. S. Singh, of Suva, Fiji, now of Auckland, New Zealand Praying for permission to reside permanently in New Zealand. I have the honour to report that the Public Petitions M to Z Committee has carefully considered this petition, and, as the petition involves a matter of Government policy, has no recommendation to make. 6th August, 1946.

Murrell, of 44 Linwood Road, New Lynn, Auckland, President of the New Zealand Horological Institute, Incorporated, and Others Praying for the introduction of a Bill to provide for the registration of watchmakers and clockmakers. I have the honour to report that the Public Petitions M to Z Committee has carefully considered this petition, and has no recommendation to make. 11th September, 1946.
No. 17.—Petition of J. Jefferies and Others, of Christchurch Praying that no action be taken in the direction of introducing legislation for the registration of watchmakers and clockmakers. I have the honour to report that the Public Petitions M to Z Committee has carefully considered this petition, and has no recommendation to make. 11th September, 1946.
No. 67.—Petition of Doris Watters, of 22 Westbourne Road, Remuera, Auckland, and Others Praying for the provision of better Saturday morning shopping facilities. I have the honour to report that the Committee has carefully considered this petition, and has no recommendation to make. 10th October, 1946.
No. 61. —Petition of P. C. Peters, of Wellington, Accountant Praying for an inquiry into the method of allocation of State rental flats and houses. I have the honour to report that the Committee has carefully considered this petition, and has no recommendation to make. 10th October, 1946. W. M. C. Denham, Chairman.
