ORDERS OF REFERENCE. Extracts from the Journals of the House of Representatives. Thursday, the 11th Day of July, 1940. Ordered, " That a Select Committee be appointed, consisting of ten members, to consider all matters in connection with defence which may be referred to it: the Committee to consist of Mr. Anderton, Mr. Barclay, Mr. P. Carr, the Right Hon. Mr. Coates, Mr. Cullen, Mr. Frost, Mr. Lee, Mr. Lowry, Mr. Roy, and the Mover."—(Hon. Mr. Jones.) Ordered, " That during the present session all Select Committees appointed by the House have leave to sit on days on which the House is not sitting, provided that when it is proposed to sit on any such day at least three days' notice shall be given to each member of the Committee of the date of the sitting."—(Right Hon. Mr. Phaser.) Ordered, " That all petitions not finally dealt with during the session of 1939 be again referred to the same Committee as they were referred to during the said session."—(Right Hon. Mr. Fraser.)
REPORTS. No. 68/1939.- —Petition of Sarah L. Robbie, of Lower Hutt. Praying for payment of separation and children's allowances during her husband's absence on military service between 1914 and 1919. I have the honour to report that the Defence Committee has no recommendation to make. 10th October, 1940. L. G. Lowry, Deputy Chairman.
Special Report. I have the honour to report that the Defence Committee desires to place on record its hearty appreciation of the services of its Chairman, Mr. Barclay, and has directed that a resolution to this effect be placed on the minutes of the Committee, and be reported to the House. sth December, 1940. Special Report. I have the honour to report that the Defence Committee desires to place on record its appreciation of the efficient services rendered by the Clerk of the Committee, Mr. E. B. Harman. sth December, 1940. F. L. Frost, for Chairman.
Final Report. I have the honour to report that the Defence Committee, consisting of ten members, has held four meetings, with an average attendance of five members. One petition was considered and reported on to the House. sth December, 1940. F. L. Frost, for Chairman.
