ORDERS OF REFERENCE. Extracts from the Journals of the House of Representatives. Wednesday, the 23rd Day of July, 1930. Ordered, " That a Select Committee be appointed, consisting of ten members, to consider all matters pertaining to agricultural and pastoral industries and stock ; with power to confer and sit together with any similar Committee which may be appointed by the Legislative Council, and to agree to a joint or separate report; three to be a quorum : the Committee to consist of Mr. Burnett, Mr. Hall, Mr. Hawke, Mr. Kyle, Mr. Langstone, Mr. Lye, Mr. Macpherson, Mr. Martin, Mr. Poison, and the mover."—(Hon. Mr. Murdoch.) Friday, the 25th Day of July, 1930. Ordered, " That the Meat-export Control Amendment Bill be referred to the Agricultural and Pastoral Industries and Stock Committee." —(Mr. Lysnar.) Tuesday, the 29th Day oe July, 1930. Ordered, " That all petitions not fin ally dealt with during the session of 1929 be again referred to the same Committees that they were referred to during the said session." —(Hon. Mr. Forbes.) Thursday, the 28th Day of August, 1930. Ordered, " That the order of the House made yesterday, referring the petition of the New Zealand Pig-breeders' Association (Incorporated) direct to the Public Petitions M to Z Committee be rescinded, and that the said petition be referred direct to the Agricultural and Pastoral Industries and Stock Committee."—(Mr. J. A. Nash.) Tuesday, the 2nd Day of September, 1930. Ordered, " That the petition of A. H. REPORTS. No. 404/29. —Petition of W. R. Hufton, of Lower Hutt. Praying for official recognition of his improved branding-appliance. I am directed to report that in the opinion of the Committee the petition should be referred to the Government for consideration, with a suggestion that the question of the adoption of an identification brand for all exported New Zealand meat should be considered. 15th August, 1930.
No, 335/29. —Petition of H. Zimmerman, of Kopaki. Praying for £400 compensation in respect to alleged misrepresentation in purchasing a stud Jersey bull. I am directed to report that in the opinion of the Committee the petition should be referred to the Government for favourable consideration. 15th August, 1930.
No. 403/29. —Petition of A. P. Horne, of Buckland, and 40 Others. Praying for amendment of the Stock Act in respect of branding by the tattoo system. I am directed to report that in the opinion of the Committee the petition should be referred to the Government for favourable consideration, and that the Stock Act should be amended so as to make the selection of type of brand used optional. 27th August, 1930.

No. 67. —Petition of W. A. Tate, of Greytown, and 32 Others. Praying for amendment of the Fruit Control Act, 1924. I am directed to report that, as the question of standardization of fruit is now being exhaustively examined by the Industries and Commerce Committee on the retail fruit inquiry, and standardization cannot be attained without the amendment of the Fruit Control Act, 1924, sought by this petition, this Committee is of opinion that to avoid needless repetition of evidence before different Committees, the petition should be referred to the Industries and Commerce Committee. 27th August, 1930.
Meat-export Control Amendment Bill. I am directed to report that the Committee, having carefully considered the Bill, recommends that it be allowed to proceed, with the amendments shown, in the copy attached hereto. 17th September, 1930.
No. 112. —Petition of A. J. Heighway, of Hamilton. Praying for removal of import duties on cereal and vegetable stock-foods. I am directed to report that in the opinion of the Committee the petition should be referred to the Government for most favourable consideration. [Debate was interrupted, and report was not laid on Table of the House.] I7th September, 1930.
No. 163.—Petition of A. H. Owen, of Martinborough, and 55 Others. Praying for an amendment of the Dairy-produce Export Control Act. I am directed to report that, in the absence of sufficient evidence of any widespread desire for such a change as the petition requests, the Committee has no recommendation to make. 2nd October, 1930.
No. 156. —Petition of the New Zealand Pig-breeders' Association (Inc.), of Palmerston North. Praying that legislation may be introduced for the grading of all pigs bought for curing or export. I am directed to report that in the opinion of the Committee the petition should be referred to the Government for favourable consideration, believing that- all pigs for curing and for export should be killed under Government supervision, and should be subject to a uniform system of compulsory grading. 2nd October, 1930.
Special Report. I have the honour to report that the Agricultural and Pastoral Industries and Stock Committee desires to place on record its high appreciation of the courtesy and ability with which the Chairman, Mr. Lye, has presided over the business of the Committee during the session. It further desires that this resolution shall be recorded in the minutes of the Committee and be reported to the House. J. A. Macpherson, 22nd October, 1930. A Member of the Committee.
Special Report. I have the honour to report that the Agricultural and Pastoral Industries and Stock Committee, desires to express its appreciation of the courtesy and ability with which the Clerk, Mr. Fox, has performed his various duties during the session. It also desires that this resolution shall be recorded in the minutes of the Committee and be reported to the House. 22nd October, 1930.
Final Report. I have the honour to report that the Agricultural and Pastoral Industries and Stock Committee, consisting of ten members, has held ten meetings during the session, and that the average attendance of members has been eight. Evidence was taken 011 one Bill, which was afterwards reported to the House. Six petitions also were fully investigated and duly reported on, and one other was, by the order of the House, transferred to another Committee for hearing. 22nd October, 1930. F. Lye, Chairman.
