DESPATCHES RELATING TO LORD GLASGOW'S LEAVE OF ABSENCE.
Presented to both, Houses of the General Assembly by Command of His Excellency.
No. 1. (No. 24.) Sir, — Government House, Wellington, Bth July, 1896. I have the honour to bring to your notice that, having informed the Secretary of State on accepting the appointment I have the honour to hold that for private reasons I would be unable to retain it for more than five years, my term of office will accordingly expire on the Bth of April, 1897, as I have drawn salary since the same date in 1892. In case there is no official record of my intimation to that effect, which, as far as I am concerned, was verbal only, I beg respectfully to be allowed to resign my office at the expiration of the term of five years, to take effect on the above-mentioned date. I have, &c, The Eight Hon. J. Chamberlain, Secretary of State for the Colonies. Glasgow.
No. 2. (No. 25.) Sir, — Government House, Wellington, Bth July, 1896. With reference to my letter of this day's date relative to the termination of my appointment on the Bth of April, 1897, I have the honour to apply for two months' leave of absence (which will be the first application of the kind that I have made), in order that I may be able to take my final departure from the colony on or about the Bth February, 1897. No. 3. (Telegram.) 2nd September, 1896. Eeferring to your telegram of 24th August, you may take leave for two months if no objection on part of your Ministers, and on half salary if allowed by law.
