REPORT OF THE REGISTRAR-GENERAL OF LAND, FOR THE YEAR ENDED 30TH JUNE, 1876.

The Eegisteae-Genebal of Land to the Hon. the Minister of Justice. Sib, — Office of Eegistrar-G-eneral of Land, Christchurch, 14th July, 1876. I have the honor herewith to lay before you the following statement as to the working of the Land Transfer and Deeds Eegistry Departments for the year ending the 30th June, IS76: — Land Transfer. The receipts, exclusive of Assurance Fund, have been £12,527; the expenditure about £9,220. The receipts for the ensuing year may be estimated at £13,000 ; the expenditure about £9,790. A Surveyor-General having been appointed for the colony, it is much to be desired that arrangements should be made for placing the licensing of surveyors under the Land Transfer Act, and the survey work of the department generally, under the supervision of that officer. I append returns (A) of the business transacted under -the Act during the past year, (B) of fees received during the same period, and (C) of mortgages created and discharged during the past year, and of the total amounts remaining secured on mortgage under the Land Transfer Act on the 30th June last. Deeds Registry. The receipts of the Deeds Eegistry Department during the past year have been £15,733 ; the expenditure about £9,229. The receipts for the ensuing year may be estimated at £15,000 ; the expenditure at about £9,555.
