Robert Smith, an exhibitions officer for the Robert McDougall Art Gallery, unpacks “Landscape Series B,” by Colin McCahon. The work consists of eight oil-on-jute panels and will be the focal point of an exhibition of 14 McCahon paintings at the gallery from February 16 to March 16. The work is on loan from the Queen Elizabeth II Arts Council in Wellington.

“I Paul ” painted in 1950 by the controversial New Zealand artist, Colin McCahon, which is on display in the McCahon exhibition at the Robert McDougal! Art Gallery. This picture was lent to the gallery by Mrs D. Holland, shown looking at her painting during the opening of the exhibition yesterday. Mrs Holland paints under the name of Doris Lusk. The exhibition will continue until February 16.

AIR RACE COMMEMORATIVE PAINTING.—An imaginary jet airliner and a small military aircraft are featured in this picture, which was painted in Christchurch by Mr Colin McCahon. The picture was commissioned by Tasman Empire Airways, Ltd., to commemorate the air race from London to .Christchurch next October. Mr McCahon, who recently went to Auckland to live, is shown on the left of the photograph. On the right is Mr E. Westbrook, director of the Auckland Art Gallery. The painting will be displayed in Christchurch in September, and after the race it” will be returned to the Auckland Art Gallery for exhibition. Later it may be sold.
