SEA MAKES DEEP INROADS ON ST. CLAIR FORESHORE Heavy seas have been pounding the already deeply eroded foreshore at St. Clair causing considerable damage to the protective works and scouring away further quantities of sand. This picture, taken yesterday, shows some of the seas bursting against the banks of sand.

EROSION OF SAND ON ST. CLAIR BEACH The beach in front of the esplanade at St. Clair does not present a very inviting appearance just now, as the continued washing away of the sand has left nothing but stones for some yards out from the wall. It is hoped that the beach will improve before the bathing season.

EROSION CONTINUES AT ST. CLAIR Erosion by the sea has assumed serious proportions at St Clair, and near the St. Hilda end of the Esplanade large washouts have occurred. As this picture shows, a temporary wall of sandbags and bush is being constructed to prevent further washing away of the sand.

The St. Clair beach and baths were crowded yesterday afternoon with children taking advantage of the fine weather and making the most of their last day of holiday. This photograph was taken at the St. Clair baths, where children of all ages were enjoying themselves, and inset is a small girl playing with her bucket and the wet sand.

Above: DISAPPEARANCE OF SAND. Another picture amply demonstrating the amount of sand which has been washed away from the breakwater piles at St. Clair. At present . those nearest the water stand some 15ft out of the sand.; Their height can be gauged by comparison with that of an average-sized man standing in the picture.
