She also won the 880 yards speed title and was second in the 220 yards event. RIGHT: Miss R. Murray and T. C. Grigg, winners of the pairs skating championship. In figure skating, Grigg won the men’s title and Miss Murray was runner-up in the women’s contest.

Sonya Taia, aged 13, practising for the New Zealand ice figure skating championships in Auckland next week. She is one of 19 members of the Centaurus Ice Skating Club who will compete in the championships. Sonya was placed third in her grade in the club’s championships. The club holds the Allchurch Shield, which is awarded to the best figure skating club in New Zealand, and hopes to retain it at the championships.
