The twin towers of the San Diego Marriot Hotel sparkle across the waters of a marina on the shores of the bay. The brown highrise building between the hotel and the tree, at left, is referred to by local residents as the “Patty Hearst Hilton.” It is, in fact, the federal prison where Hearst, kidnapped newspaper heiress turned bank robber, spent some time.

NEW YORK’S LATEST HOTELS.—The New York Hilton, a 46-storey hotel on the Avenue of the Americas between 53rd and 54th streets, was opened to the public recently. The building, which cost 60 million dollars, is on the right. At left is the Americana Hotel. The hotels were built close together so that they could book conventions jointly. .Under construction in the foreground is a 45-storey office building, as yet unnamed.
