UNUSUAL MAY DAY OBSERVANCE IN NEW YORK.—A section of St. Patrick's Cathedral, New York, on May l, when 4000 persons jammed the edifice and 6000 more prayed outside the cathedral as the service was carried to them by loud speakers. The theme of the service, which was presided over by Cardinal Spellman, was "Saviour of the World, Save Russia," Msgr. Joseph McCaffrey, Pastor of the Holy Cross Church, New York, delivered the sermon, in which he said that millions of persons are living in slavery in Russia adding "It is on this day, Mary's Day, that we pray, that they may be loosened from their intellectual, physical and moral bondage."
