Buckinghamshire County Agricultural Show at Aylesbury, England.—Nearly a thousand entries made a good showing at the Buckinghamshire Agricultural Association’s annual show at Hertwell Park, Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire, recently. An outstanding feature was the entry of over 300 pedigree Ayrshires. This picture shows the championship Ayreshire cow in Calf, Mr. William C. Blair’s "Annables Daylight,” which has given over 10,000 lb. of milk in 305 days.

BUCKINGHAMSHIRE LACE.—The beautiful Buckinghamshire lace, one of the most outstanding handicraft products of the early nineteenth century, was made on a pillow like this one. One candle only could be afforded in the cottages where it was produced and to get sufficient light the three solid glass globes were placed in position, as shown in the picture, to concentrate the candle’s beams on to the pillow.

John Gilpin's famous ride was re-enacted in June in celeb ration of the bi-centenary of the poet, William Cowper, at Olney, Buckinghamshire. Mrs. Gilpin, her sister and family, drove up to the Bell Inn in an ancient coach and watched from the windows Gilpin career past on horseback, hatless, wigless, and with his coat tails flying. Gilpin— the part being played by S. L. Trevor, captain of the Buckinghamshire cricket eleven—secured a fresh wig at Calenders, now the Sun Inn, and returned at furious gallop, stirrupless, pursued by a post boy and others on horseback. The final reunion of the family on the balcony of the Bell Inn was preceded by a pageant of episodes in Cowper's life and incidents in his poems. The illustration on top shows Gilpin galloping past, and the one below his reunion with his family.
