Now they might have been quite all right had Richard not been so ambitious. But he wanted a really good run, so he said, and chose a perfectly gorgeous hill for it, or, in other words, a very steep one. “It will be a real Cresta run,” he declared. It was as well Gwen and Ted did not know what he meant, or they might not have joined him. It certainly was a Cresta run, for they were soon shooting downhill like fire. They did not look very happy about it, though! I wonder if there was anything in the way?

RAILWAY SMASH.—This view of the scene cf Saturday’s railway disaster near Ratana Station shows how the carriages Jay alongside the engine in the cutting, the banks of which prevented the carriages from rolling outwards from the wrecked locomotive. AT ST. MORITZ.—W. M. L. Fiske competing for the Beatrice Cartwright Cup on the Cresta Run at St. Moritz. Fiske won the trophy with runs averaging 57 seconds. WRECKED!—This railway carriage went past the wrecked locomotive in the accident on Saturday morning, and was found well ahead of it. This happening probably prevented other carriages from being telescoped, with even more srious loss of life.
