THE QUEEN MOTHER RECEIVES THE FREEDOM OF THE CITY OF LONDON.—Aldermen of the City of London being presented to Queen Elizabeth the Qneen Mother during a ceremony in the Guildhall last week, when Her Majesty accepted the freedom of the city. The Lord Mayor, Sir Rupert de la Bere, is standing on the right. Her Majesty is the first mother of a reigning Monarch to receive the City of London’s highest honour.

ROYAL MARINES RECEIVE FREEDOM OF PORTSMOUTH.—A battalion of the Royal Corps of Marines marching through Portsmouth with bayonets fixed and colours flying on being granted the freedom of the city. The privilege of marching in this way is traditionally forbidden to any troops in ah English borough except those Who have been awarded the freedom. The troops are led. by a casket-bearer carrying the scroll conferring the freedom of the city upon them.

In celebration of the Arclibishop of Canterbury's SOIL birthday and of the completion of his twenty five years as Primate of England (the longest Primacy since the Reformation) Canterbury, conferred the Freedom of the City; at the Guildhall, on Dr Randall Davidson, the Archbishop.
