FRENCH SCUTTLE THEIR FLEET AT TOULON: Not a single warship at Toulon now remains afloat, it is reported, following Admiral de Laborde’s order to scuttle consequent on the Axis decision to occupy the naval base. This picture shows the Dunkerque, one of the most modern French battle-cruisers, which was apparently in dock at the time when orders were given to scuttle. She escaped during the Battle of Oran and reached Toulon. On the way, however, she was damaged by a torpedo from a plane of the Royal Navy Fleet Air Arm.
