NEW TURBO-PROP AIRLINER.—This four-engined Lockheed Electra airliner has been described as the first American challenge to Great Britain’s leadership in the field of commercial jet-with-propeller aircraft. A recent cable message from Washington announced that American Airlines had ordered 35 of these planes at a total cost of 65,000,000 dollars. The designed cruising speed for the new Electra is 414 miles an hour.

STEWARDESSES MEET AUSTRALIAN ELECTRA.—Four Chinese and two Japanese flight stewardesses at the Sydney airport to meet the first of Qantas’s four Lockheed Electra airliners which recently arrived from California. The stewardesses will serve in the Electras on the routes from Sydney to Manila, Hong Kong and Tokyo. The Electra carries 16 first class and 47 tourist class passengers, and flies at 450 miles an hour.
