UNUSUAL MAY DAY OBSERVANCE IN NEW YORK.-A section of St. Patrick’s Cathedral, New on May 1 when 4,000 persons jammed the edifice and 6,000 more prayed outside as the service was carried to them by loud speakers. The theme of the service, which was presided over by Cardinal Spellman was “Saviour of the World, Save Russia.” Msgr. Joseph A. McCaffrey, Pastor of Holy Cross Church New York delivered the sermon, in which he said that millions of people are living in slavery in Russia, adding:’ “It is for them on this day, Mary’s Day, that we pray. That they may b,e loosened from their intellectual, physical, and moral bondage.”
